What is a Cent account? How it suits gold EAs with small capital
A Cent account lets people with modest capital run an EA with lots up to a hundred times smaller. This article explains how the numbers work, how to choose a lot size that fits your capital, and what to watch out for before opening an account.
What is a Cent account
Cent Account is a trading account that shows the balance in "cents" instead of "dollars" The account currency is usually shown as USC (US Cent) as 1 USD = 100 USC
For example, if you deposit 500 USD into a Cent account, the balance will show as 50,000 USC The real money is the same; only the displayed unit is smaller.
On a standard account the smallest lot is 0.01, which for gold is still too large for capital of a few hundred dollars. A Cent account makes the value per lot about 100 times smaller, so you can control risk per order much more finely.
How profit and loss work in the account Cent
For gold (XAUUSD) on a standard account, a 0.01 lot order equals 1 ounce of gold. When the price moves 1 dollar, the profit or loss is about 1 USD
On a Cent account at most brokers, a 0.01 lot order with a 1 dollar price move gains or loses about 1 USC (= 0.01 USD) The numbers look the same, but the real value is 100 times smaller.
| 0.01 lot order · gold price moves 10 dollars | Number in the account | Real value |
|---|---|---|
| Standard account (USD) | ≈ 10 USD | ≈ 10 USD |
| Cent account (USC) | ≈ 10 USC | ≈ 0.10 USD |

Check the broker's actual specs on the Specification
Specs differ between brokers, so before you start, check them in MT5: press Ctrl+M to open the Market Watch window → right-click the gold symbol → Specification

- Contract size = 1 means 1 lot equals 1 ounce of gold. A 0.01 lot order with a 1 dollar price move gains or loses 0.01 USD, or 1 USC, matching the table above (most standard accounts Contract size = 100)
- Margin / Profit currency = USD specs are in dollars, but the account balance is shown in USC; the system converts automatically.
- Minimal volume 0.01 · Volume step 0.01 lot minimum 0.01, adjustable in steps of 0.01
Why gold-trading EAs often recommend a Cent
- You can start with small capital: With a few hundred dollars you can use an EA without setting a lot size that is too large for your capital.
- EA A Grid system needs room for recovery orders: Grid It opens additional orders in layers when the price moves against it. If the lot per order is too large for the capital, the basket cannot withstand a long price run. A Cent account lets the capital support many more layers (read Grid EA and risks)
- Fine-grained sizing: Increase or decrease the lot a little at a time according to your real capital.
- Try with real money at a small scale: You see how the EA behaves in the real market, which differs from a demo account in spread and order execution.

- Standard account lot 0.01 is recommended with capital of 2,500 USD or more, and only for QQ Buy / QQ Sell
- If you want to grow, we recommendopening more accounts with new capital instead of raising the lot on an existing account. The risk per account will not increase.
Things to watch out for with a Cent
- Big numbers make you easily: think you see a profit "5,000" that looks large, but it is actually 50 USD. Always think in dollars so you do not make poor decisions.
- Spreads and conditions may differ from a standard account Some brokers have wider spreads on Cent accounts.
- There is a balance cap: Many brokers limit the maximum deposit of the account. Cent
- Not every broker offers one: Choose a broker that lets you open a Cent account on MT5 and offers gold for trading.
- The risk does not go away: A Cent account makes orders smaller, but if you set a lot that is too large for your capital, you can still wipe out the account.
How to tell whether an account is a Cent account
- In MT5, look at the balance in the Trade tab at the bottom. If the currency is USC it is a Cent
- The gold symbol name often has a suffix, such as XAUUSDc or XAUUSD.sc (depending on the broker.)
- EA and the Gold Progress website detects this automatically from the symbol name and currency, and sets the starting lot by account type (Cent 0.20 · Standard 0.01).
